Turn potential into success with Lightning

Many companies that use Salesforce are faced with the decision of whether to switch their user interface to Lightning Experience or stick with Classic. The now mature Lightning Experience user interface has been available since 2016. For new customers, only Salesforce CRM systems with the Lightning interface are provided and most of the new features are only available to Lightning users.

At some point, everyone has to switch to Lightning.

The advantages of Lightning Experience are obvious: the new system interface is more user-friendly, visually appealing and optimized for mobile devices. Many functions that previously had to be programmed can now be implemented with just a few mouse clicks. This saves time-consuming interface development.

On the other hand, there is also an understandable reluctance to replace something that works and is tried and tested and to go to the expense of a changeover. In fact, you should plan a changeover well, because in most cases, simply clicking on “Switch to Lightning Experience” is not enough.

The cost of a changeover depends in particular on whether the system was used in Classic with the standard interfaces and functions, or whether extensive use was made of individually programmed user pages and standard functions were overridden.

Visualforce is fully compatible with Lightning.

Additional required functions can be realized in Salesforce Classic with VisualForce components. These Visualforce components can continue to be used in Lightning even after a changeover; Visualforce is fully compatible with Lightning. By making minimal changes to the source code, you can even adapt the style so that the VF page fits in visually with Lightning.

On the other hand, there is also an understandable reluctance to replace something that works and is tried and tested and to go to the expense of a changeover. In fact, you should plan a changeover well, because in most cases, simply clicking on “Switch to Lightning Experience” is not enough.

When switching to Lightning Experience, each data record page should be analyzed and the information displayed should be evaluated for its relevance, among other things, and the arrangement of the data redefined accordingly. The extensive standard functions in Lightning for displaying fields and linked data records can be used for this new arrangement. Any programming that can be replaced by this procedure reduces the permanent operating costs for the system – in line with the Salesforce motto “Click, Not Code”.

All data remains unchanged, only the view of it improves.

The URL hacks that are very popular in Classic, with which you can dynamically set parameters in a URL to call up reports or create data records, can largely be replaced by QuickActions or rich text links in Lightning.

In Lightning Experience, home pages can be customized to the different requirements of user groups even better than in Classic. In this way, each user only sees the information that is relevant to them. This could be “the turnover of my customers”, “open tasks of my team” or “business transactions to be approved”. The information relevant to daily work can be displayed very flexibly on the start page of a user group.

There is often a ready-made solution on the Appexchange, the Salesforce marketplace, for many requirements that cannot be implemented in Lightning with on-board resources. When an image slider was recently needed for a customer, it was found, installed and integrated into the Lightning data record page in no time at all.

Switch to Lightning Experience safely with our proven methodology

Technical screening of the surfaces.
We also take a look behind the scenes: How are the interfaces structured, what functionality is used, how much code is behind them? What can be implemented in Lightning without major effort and which components need to be reprogrammed?

Re-design of the implementation of use cases.
Together with your key users, we analyze your business processes and their implementation in your existing Salesforce environment. During the changeover, we will optimize usage, can implement new requirements and remove functionalities that are no longer required. You will receive an optimized solution that is even better tailored to your Business-Use-Cases and allows your users to work even more efficiently.

Efficient implementation of the Lightning user interface.
After the redesign, we implement the adjustments efficiently and take current best practice procedures into account in order to fully utilize the advantages of the Lightning Experience user interface.

Rollout to your users.
A pilot run with selected key users on the production system is used to carry out quality assurance and make any necessary or desired minor adjustments. Authorization settings allow users to be individually switched to Lightning for the pilot phase and, if necessary, switched back to Classic. All other users can continue to work on the Classic interface as before.

After a successful pilot phase, all users are converted to Lightning Experience. If required, users will be trained by key users or by b2plus experts and will receive operational support for questions during the first few days after the changeover.
